It’s hard to think that a movie theatre in a mall turned into one of the coolest places to go in Asheville and it’s free!  Starting July 5th, Cinnebarre is taking their movies outside, admission is free.  Bring a blanket, a chair, a pillow, whatever makes you comfortable watching a movie. Seating begins @ 8pm.  All shows start at dark.  They are grilling burgers and hotdogs outside with a great beer and wine selection. Just another heads up, Mon thru Thurs all movies are $1.00 after 9PM.

From your Asheville pet friendly vacation cabin, take 240 to the Biltmore Mall on Brevard Road.  At the first light turn left (McDonald’s is on the corner) into the Mall entrance.  Turn left again and follow the road to go all the way around to the back.  You will see Cinnebar in the back.

There are so many places downtown to just hang out now, it’s hard to pick one and go with it for the night.  You may find yourself going to several.  From the great music to the home brewed beers, it’s nearly impossible not to have an outstanding evening.  One of the places to consider going to is the Sky Bar.  It’s located near the top of Ashevillle’s landmark Flat Iron Building.  The bar is actually three west-facing balconies connected by a fire escape seven stories up.  It’s a great view and a great place to watch the sunset.  The operators of the bar are the folks that own the World Coffee Cafe on the ground floor on the Battery Park side.  Oh boy what great deserts there!

When you leave your Asheville vacation rental cabin, you will go to downtown on Patton Ave.  That’s the first exit off 240 going towards downtown, right over the bridge.   Stay on Patton Ave until you see the clock on the left corner.  Turn left there.  Park in the city lot on your right.  Then walk to the building that is connected to it.  That’s the Flat Iron Building.  On Wall Street you will see the big black iron right on the corner.

Sitting in your Asheville vacation rental cabin wondering what to do tonight.  Hmmmm,  I don’t feel like cooking.  Do you want to rent a movie?  Oh let’s go out.  Oh, let’s not go out and just chill.

I can give you an idea.  Go out to a movie and eat a pizza or some Italian dish while you are watching it!  Oh, and have one of their in-house made beers if you fancy that. How fun is that!!  Asheville Pizza Co.  is just the place you want to go.  It’s at 675 Merrimon Ave and any night of the week.  Check your Take 5 for the movie of the day and the time, or call 828-254-1281 if you are really unmoveable and check out what they are offering.  All movies are just $3.00!!  You will love it!

Located at 10 S. Lexington Ave. the lounge offers customers a cozy setting with comfortable furniture, candlelit tables and Wifi as they savor a luscious brownie with an espresso or a glass of wine.   The second and third floors of the building house the kitchen and various other things.  The walls of the lounge are adorned with Asheville artist Andy Farkas work.  And the chocolate!  Oh my goodness!  The Chocolate!!!!  The owners have a gift like no other.  From cake to truffles to dips, oh fantastic.

It’s in downtown Asheville so it’s only 15 minutes from your Asheville vacation cabin.

If you’re looking for something fast, fun and skill-free to do this weekend, try snow tubing.  Wear warm clothes that are waterrepellent or bring clothes to change into.  It’s suitable for any age, small med or large size,  And oh my gosh is it fun!!!!!   Do you like to tube a river?  Well, it’s nothing like that.  LOL  Your feet stay over the tube, you just go down hill at a good speed, it’s probably more like sledding but even more!  After sliding down the snow-covered hill, a magic carpet takes visitors and their giant inner tubes back up the hill.

You can eat at the ski area or have snacks at the tube run.  I personally like to pack a lunch and head out from the Asheville Vacation Rental Cabin.  That way you don’t have to stop tubing too long.  A big thermos with lots of hot chocolate is in order for this sport.   There are a number of places that you can tube at here in the mountains, the closest one to your rental cabin is Wolf Ridge.

Vadim Bora, 56, died recently this month following complications from a massive stroke in December.  He may have left this city in body form, but he remains with us in spirit as his artwork is found throughout the city.  Leave your Asheville pet friendly cabin and take a Vadim tour around the city.

Look for the crucifix on St. Mary’s Episcopal Church off Charlotte Street.  Then on Wall Street you will see a trio of cats named appropriately “cat walk” slinking down Wall St that he created for the Urban Trail.  When you go to Biltmore, Cornelia Vanderbilt playing with her dog Cedric at the Biltmore Estate’s Antler Hill Village outside Cedric’s Tavern is Vadim’s creation.  At Mission Hospital’s Reuters Children’s Outpatient Center you will see “On the Mend,”  a 10 piece life-size figurative sculpture grouping.  At the VA Medical Center Asheville there is a memorial stone sculpture, “The Wings of Freedom.”   Another place to find one of his sculptures is at the Modesto restaurant in the Grove Arcade.  There you will find medieval-style grotesques of synthetic stone.

Asheville’s Downtown Market has just finished it’s first year in operation.  It is a 42,000 square foot space that includes booths of every kind of everything you could want from food to antique leggings. More than a dozen popular Asheville bands and musicians are performing at the One Bazaar Holiday Music Festival.  The Festival starts on November 26th and runs every weekend through December 18th.   Shop, eat, and listen to music for your Christmas shopping experience.  It’s like going to a festival but it’s indoors!  where it’s warm!  and you can drink a hot toddy!

The Downtown Market is only 15 minutes from your Asheville Pet Friendly cabin.  Grab your dinner at the new Fusion restaurant and bring it back to the cabin and eat in front of the fireplace relaxing after your big shopping experience.

If you are looking for a great Thanksgiving buffet to take your family to while you are staying in your Asheville vacation cabin, keep in mind many of the large hotels have very very large buffets.  I say why cook when you can eat out.  No, really, but some folks come to the mountains and rent a cabin to make a big ol fashioned Thanksgiving dinner in the cabin.  Which really is pretty awesome.

But, if you are one of the ones who like to go somewhere and not have to wash dishes after, I would suggest the buffet at the Grove Park Inn, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Highland Lake Inn, Biltmore Inn,

It’s time for the 18th annual National Gingerbread House Competition to be displayed at  The Grove Park Inn.  Every year from right before Thanksgiving to right after the New Year the “cakes” are on display.  This year the dates are November 17th to January 2nd 2011.  It’s an awesome event.  I like to go to it every year.  The gingerbread houses are amazing.  I mean AMAZING!!!

The general public viewing is free Monday through thursday only 10 AM – 10PM each week.  If you’re staying in an Asheville rental cabin during Christmas, you will not want to miss this.   While you’re there, eat at the patio restaurant.  Really good food.

Oh boy, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….  Why do I say that?  Well, just as the first chilled night feels like winter has arrived, the Christmas parade feels like Christmas is here!!  Yippee!!  I am one of those old fashioned folks that love “jingle bells”, the smell of pine, houses with lights, Santas everywhere, and the buzz of children in sheer delight of the season.   Asheville’s Holiday Parade is just perfect to get you in the spirit!

The schedule for the festivities are: Holiday windows contest kicks off Wed the 15th, AIR’s Taste of Asheville is on Thursday night the 16th, The Christmas Concert is on Friday night the 17th, The 64th Annual Holiday Parade is on Saturday morning the 18th.   Looks like it would be good for you to book a long weekend at your Asheville vacation cabin to get to participate in it all.
