If you’re looking for something fast, fun and skill-free to do this weekend, try snow tubing. Wear warm clothes that are waterrepellent or bring clothes to change into. It’s suitable for any age, small med or large size, And oh my gosh is it fun!!!!! Do you like to tube a river? Well, it’s nothing like that. LOL Your feet stay over the tube, you just go down hill at a good speed, it’s probably more like sledding but even more! After sliding down the snow-covered hill, a magic carpet takes visitors and their giant inner tubes back up the hill.
You can eat at the ski area or have snacks at the tube run. I personally like to pack a lunch and head out from the Asheville Vacation Rental Cabin. That way you don’t have to stop tubing too long. A big thermos with lots of hot chocolate is in order for this sport. There are a number of places that you can tube at here in the mountains, the closest one to your rental cabin is Wolf Ridge.
There’s one thing we can say at this point in time, we have lots of snow. It’s been snowing bunches up here in the mountains. At our Asheville Pet Friendly cabin, the folks had a white Christmas like no other. They were ecstatic to be here! They were able to snowboard down our hills. But when there is no snow, you can still ski in areas that are higher up as they can keep the snow on the ground all winter in one way or another.
One of the places to ski at is Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. It’s not too far from the cabin so a day trip is definitely possible. Wolf Ridge is host to more than 72 acres of ski terrain with 23 slopes. It’s in Mars Hill just right above Asheville.
The Polar Express comes to life when the train departs the Bryson City depot for a round trip journey to the “North Pole”. The excursions begin on Nov 5 and continue on until December 24th. Guests on board will enjoy caroling, hot cocoa, treats, and a special gift for each child while listening and reading along with the magical story. The faces on the children are incredible when the train arrives at the “North Pole,” where Santa Claus will be waiting. Santa will board The Polar Express where he will greet each child and present them with a special memento. Holiday carols will be sung on the return trip to Bryson City. Kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas!
While staying at your Asheville cabin rental, you can plan a trip to Dillsboro for Christmas Eve. What a great experience for children.
Oh boy it’s a wonderful time of the year. My favorite part of it is the Christmas Lights on the houses. I love to see all the arrangements that folks come up with. One guy has rigged it so that you can pick up his Christmas music that he plays with his lights on your car radio as you drive by. It’s incredible what people do and invest to have really great Christmas light shows. When you come on your Christmas in the mountains vacation and stay at your Asheville cabin rental, be sure to check out these places:
1546 Sandymush Road, Marshall
Teague Drive, Leicester (right around the corner from Cabin Cove Farm)
15 Helen Holcombe Way, Candler
1437 Jenkins Valley Road, Alexander
62 Sluder Branch Road, Candler
21 Beech Glen Drive, Black Mountain
185 Sardis Road, Asheville
1012 Thorncrest Drive, Fletcher
209 Brevard Road, West Asheville
8 Morning Star Drive, Leicester
I had the opportunity to stay at an Asheville rental cabin – pet friendly mind you - with a huge great yard, that was a partner of Biltmore Estate. Basically what that means is that Biltmore Estate allows a facility to purchase tickets wholesale and sell them for whatever price they want. Kind of like legal scalping. LOL
So, I stayed at this cabin and we purchased our Biltmore Estate tickets for so much less than if we purchased them on line or at the gate because these folks didn’t make any money on their tickets. They sell them special to us – their rentors – at the price they buy them at. We couldn’t believe our fortune of picking a place we could do this with. On top of the discounted ticket, for December, the cabin we are renting provides one free ticket with two complimentary candlelight tickets. What a great deal! We’re having a beautiful Biltmore Christmas.
It’s time for Fletcher to have their Christmas parade this Saturday. Lots of bands, floats, and just fun. Thurs night is Waynesville’s. They put on a show no matter what they do so I would think this one would be good to go to. You can check out all the neat lights put up on the highway on the way to Waynesville from Asheville.
When you leave your Asheville rental cabin you would go a shorter route than going through Asheville itself. Simply leave the cabin and turn left on Goughes Branch road taking it to Newfound Road. Turn right on Newfound Road and take it all the way to 40. Get onto 40 going towards Tenn. Get off at ext 27, then take 74 to Waynesville. Get off at 276, Waynesville exit, go right at the end of the ramp and veer right at the fork in the road at McDonalds. That road will take you right to Downtown Waynesville.
Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is 3 miles south of Hendersonville off US 225 on Little River Road in Flat Rock. The house is decorated in the simple style of the Sandburgs with poinsettias and a traditionally decorated Christmas tree, plus a free holiday celebration in the house garage with refreshments, musicians, and storytellers. Everything is free except the house tour, which is $5 or $3 for ages 62 and older, free for age 15 and younger.
From your Asheville dog friendly cabin it will take only 25 min to get there. Plan on seeing the barn and all the little animals. It’ s a great experience for the whole family.
There are many venues in Asheville to explore any number of Crafts produced by some of the best craftspeople in the country. The DryGoods Shop has just opened and is another one of those places that rent booths to craftspeople to sell their wares. The DryGoods Shop and all the other artists and makers with studios in the building at 474 Haywood Road will hold an open house 3-8PM on Dec 11 with special events and sales, refreshments, a tree-trimming and lessons on how to make paper ornaments.
It takes just a meer 15 minutes to get there from your Asheville vacation cabin. Simply go to Patton Ave, left on Patton Ave. Take the first right at the first light which is Louisiana. Take Louisiana to the end and turn left onto Haywood Rd. Sunnypoint Restaurant will be on your right at the next light. Great restaurant. Go down Haywood Road until you almost get to 240. DryGoods will be on your right right before the entrance to 240.
Every town in these mountains has a Christmas parade. These are the ol’ fashioned small town parades. Everybody knows everybody. The floats are everything from Miss Peach Picker to the Mayor with High School bands marching between each float. It’s so great to be an observer as everyone seems to be connected to someone in the parade and are energetic to say the least. They’re not your bigtown big deal parades where you just get entertained. They’re a chance for everybody in town to get together and celebrate Christmas.
If you missed the Christmas Parade in Asheville last week, no worry, there are lots more every weekend now until Christmas. Take a little trip from your Asheville Pet Friendly Cabin and check out the Christmas parades all over the place. Tuesday is Maggie Valley’s, Sylva’s is not yet posted, this weekend there are parades in Hendersonville and Black Mountain, located right around Asheville. Those towns are just minutes away.
Well I know I should be writing about all the many Christmas events going on and all around Asheville NC but my goodness, it’s snowing! Christmas, Snow, all the mountains all around me, in front of a wood burning fireplace in my Asheville pet friendly vacation cabin with my pup laying at my feet and a big mug of hot chocolate in my hand, I am in heaven.
Lots of snow activities available in the area if you want to brave the cold to be in the snow. First you can snowboard down the hill right here at the cabin. Let’s not forget about the snowmen we can build. But a trip to Beech Mountain Resort, or Cataloochee Ski Area, or Sugar Mountain Resort will put you in some serious snow. Beech Mountain Resort which opened just last Saturday opened with 22 inches of natural snow.
