From your Asheville dog friendly cabin it will take only 25 min to get there. Plan on seeing the barn and all the little animals. It’ s a great experience for the whole family.
There are many venues in Asheville to explore any number of Crafts produced by some of the best craftspeople in the country. The DryGoods Shop has just opened and is another one of those places that rent booths to craftspeople to sell their wares. The DryGoods Shop and all the other artists and makers with studios in the building at 474 Haywood Road will hold an open house 3-8PM on Dec 11 with special events and sales, refreshments, a tree-trimming and lessons on how to make paper ornaments.
It takes just a meer 15 minutes to get there from your Asheville vacation cabin. Simply go to Patton Ave, left on Patton Ave. Take the first right at the first light which is Louisiana. Take Louisiana to the end and turn left onto Haywood Rd. Sunnypoint Restaurant will be on your right at the next light. Great restaurant. Go down Haywood Road until you almost get to 240. Asheville’s Downtown Market has just finished it’s first year in operation. It is a 42,000 square foot space that includes booths of every kind of everything you could want from food to antique leggings. More than a dozen popular Asheville bands and musicians are performing at the One Bazaar Holiday Music Festival. The Festival starts on November 26th and runs every weekend through December 18th. Shop, eat, and listen to music for your Christmas shopping experience. It’s like going to a festival but it’s indoors! where it’s warm! and you can drink a hot toddy!
The Downtown Market is only 15 minutes from your Asheville Pet Friendly cabin. Grab your dinner at the new Fusion restaurant and bring it back to the cabin and eat in front of the fireplace relaxing after your big shopping experience.
And the winner is………… Well, look at that! It doesn’t look like a gingerbread house. It’s not a gingerbread house as a matter of fact. Now I find out, it’s a Christmas theme – not necessarily a house. What I think is, they were getting so outlandish in the house category, no one could top the last one anymore, so they had to stretch it to include anything. It’s pretty neat anyway. Heather Lewis of Austell, GA won the grand prize. As you can see here, it’s pretty spectacular.
While staying in your Asheville rental cabin on your big trip to the small mountain city, to see and be in small town ol timey Christmas spirit, you will want to definitely go see this.
It’s time for the 18th annual National Gingerbread House Competition to be displayed at The Grove Park Inn. Every year from right before Thanksgiving to right after the New Year the “cakes” are on display. This year the dates are November 17th to January 2nd 2011. It’s an awesome event. I like to go to it every year. The gingerbread houses are amazing. I mean AMAZING!!!
The general public viewing is free Monday through thursday only 10 AM – 10PM each week. If you’re staying in an Asheville rental cabin during Christmas, you will not want to miss this. While you’re there, eat at the patio restaurant. Really good food.
You’ll be happy to know the fair is still going on. You haven’t missed it! It lasts 10 days. The last day will be on September 19th. Plan an Asheville vacation this weekend and stay at a great Asheville vacation cabin so that you can spend the weekend at the fair. It’s impossible to see and participate in it all in just one day. The website for the daily schedules is on www.mountainfair.org.
Just read about this food dish at one of the vendors booths - I missed it this year. Next year I plan on going there first. Dinner can be the deep fried veggies. But early lunch will be a bread bowl filled with either potato soup or spaghetti, all freshly made from a family recipe. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
The Lexington Ave Arts and Fun Festival is planned for 11 to 9 on September 5, 2010. It’s a fund raiser for Arts2People, a non-profit promoting local arts. There are more than 30 acts and it’s FREE. Did I get that right? Yep, FREE!!! Another one of Asheville’s incredible events of entertainment that are free. I love it!! The official musical acts will be joined by the buskers and other street performers who always add some unpredictable flair to the festival’s footprint. Included in all that are; 80 art vendors, local food and beer, kid’s area, and bike jousting.
This event feels like a huge community block party and when you stay at your Asheville vacation rental cabin you will feel like it’s your block too. You will fall right into the festivities and it will feel like home. You will be able to go back and forth from home to festival with ease, as it’s so close to downtown. Oh boy, the Leicester Artist’s Studio Tour is coming up this weekend. It’s scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of August. The farm has been a hustling and a bustling getting ready for the event. Sharon will be showing her jewelry and jewelry studio to the public. There will also be lots of mohair and llama fleece on sale and a tour of the rental cabin is certainly in order, with treats to feed the llamas and goats. Food and drinks will also be served. Sounds like a real event at Cabin Cove Farm.
I’m sure everyone in the group is getting ready as well. There are 22 artists that participate. You can see the art that can be found in the studios at Wildberry Lodge where you can also obtain a map to help you navigate from studio to studio. Hope to see you there!
Asheville, being such an artist’s mecca is good cause to visit the area. Not only can you find wonderful artistry in all the shops, galleries, streets, etc, but artists in different areas of the city will invite the public into their studios on an art tour on a scheduled weekend. It’s great fun to talk to the artist in person and to see where the artist works, to see the tools and how they put it all together.
Leicester is a small community right on the NorthWest edge of Asheville NC. It’s only 15 minutes from downtown. Leicester Artists are having their tour on August 21-22. Stay at an Artist’s farm right in Leicester while the event is going on. Now that sounds like fun. Just jump in your car and go here, then there, then go back to your Asheville rental cabin, feed the dog, let the dog out, then go back out again to another studio. You can do this all weekend long and have a wonderful experience. You’ll feel like you are part of the whole event.
