I know it’s hard to leave the farm, but let’s get you out of the Asheville cabin rental you’ve reserved for your Asheville vacation for just one night. A couple of other free movies at a couple more cool places in the Asheville area to take note of are:
1) Firestorm Cafe and Books is located at 48 Commerce St. They screen films at no cost as special events. For the next event, you can contact the store. The movies that are shown are movies that tie into the event at the Cafe. Great cafe by the way. Organic foods, worker/owned, great atmosphere. If you want to get a feel for the culture here in Asheville, this is a really good representative, a local place you would never have found as a tourist. As a local, I invite you.
2) Courtyard Gallery is located at 109 Roberts St. They show films on Fridays at 8 pm. These are usually foreign or international films with subtitles. The theme depends on what is on display in the store. For example, if they had an Iranian display of some kind, they would show an Iranian film that ties in to that.
When you take your Asheville vacation, don’t think your movie nights are confined to your Asheville cabin rental. There are many opportunities to go to some free movies. Even though the season is winding down and Wedges has stopped their outside movie showings, you can still find a movie at the Asheville Art Museum. Their movie is free with an admission ticket to the museum.
September 11 and 12 they will be showing “Microcosmos.” This is a documentary that employs microscopic cameras and microphones to record the lives of insects such as the route of bees and the life inside ant hills in fascinating detail. This sounds like a Discovery Channel special.
You’ve heard mention of Wedge Brewery on this blog lots of times. Well, here you have it again. A free oldies but goodies is shown every Saturday night. The schedule is:
August 14 Down By Law
- Aug 21 The Maltese Falcon
- Aug 28 Brazil
Leave your Asheville vacation cabin about 30 min before dark and head out to the River Arts District. Go left at the turnaround and the Wedge Building is right there on your right. Simply walk around to the back of the building, or go around the block and park in the back, before you cross the tracks.
The ticket prices today to see a movie in a movie theatre may be prohibiting you from attending one on your vacation. I have good news that I will be sharing in the next several posts. How to see movies for free in Asheville NC.
First, when you stay at the Asheville NC pet friendly vacation cabin, you can watch cable tv and see all the movies you want. It’s so great when the folks you rent from provide that service for you. They even provide the popcorn. It’s great to hang out with your pup while watching a movie.
