I remember sitting in the dark in the outdoor theatre on the edge of my seat as I watched the story unfold listening to the plight of the Cherokee Indians. My emotions went from laughter to tears and back again all through the show. The sounds, the colors, the profound story, all of it, remarkable remarkable production. It elicits a full gamet of emotions throughout the entire performance.
The Drama is in Cherokee at the Ampitheatre built and designed specifically for the historical production. From your Asheville Vacation Cabin you would take Newfound road to 40. Get on 40 and go west. Get off at exit 27 to 74 and take that all the way to 441 going into Cherokee, not Franklin. Once in Cherokee it’s pretty self explanatory and signs will lead the way.
How many cities can you think of that have their very own outdoor Shakespearean theatre? I can name one! Asheville’s very own Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre. How cool is that!! You can go on vacation with your pup, stay at an Asheville pet friendly vacation cabin, pack a little basket for dinner and spend an evening watching Shakespeare. The theatre opens this Saturday May 12- May 29 with what I hear is quite the hilarious performance.
Three guys cover thirty- eight Shakespeare plays in less than two hours playing male and female roles. What I read is: This fast-firing comedy does just that as it parodies all of the Shakespeare plays (plus the sonnets!) with only three performers in two acts. This play is full of energy as the characters run across the stage and keep you guessing how they will pull off the next play. The clever use of some interesting costumes also adds to the fun in this annual fundraiser for the Montford Park Players.
