President Obama liked the Barbecue so much at 12 Bones he promised Michelle he would bring her there when they came.  It’s a great little mom and pop kind of place in the River Arts District in Asheville NC.  Local folks making local food and a following so strong it doesn’t matter what the economy is doing – everyone’s got to have their dose of barbecue from 12 Bones.

Why bother barbecue-ing at your Asheville rental cabin when you come,  though if you wanted to you could, the charcoal grill is there with charcoal, fluid and all.  Very convenient.  Well, I think you could do both – alternate Barbecue at the cabin and go to 12 Bones!

I think it would be such fun to stay in an Asheville NC rental cabin and on one of my excursions go to Ghost Town in Maggie Valley.  I have heard so much about it.  It’s been there forever, so many adults who were there as children with their parents in turn want to bring their kids to be entertained by the low-down cowboys.

It’s featured thrill ride is the Cliffhanger roller coaster.  It was called the Red Devil.  But the ride’s been closed to the public for two seasons now while they renovate the park.  So now the park is bigger and better than ever.  Ghost Town is in Maggie Valley,  just real close to the cabin.

With Moog Music Company moving to downtown Asheville into such large quarters, there will be ample opportunity for customer interaction.  There will be a top flight manufacturing facility and showroom that officials said would inspire workers and draw tourists from around the world.  It will be offices for the company’s 35 workers who design and construct synthesizers, guitars and other electronic music instruments.  All carry the name of Bob Moog.

This space will provide a space for musicians to drop in, experiment with Moog gear and record a few songs.  Those sessions will be recorded and the videos posted online as “Live at Moog.”   Adams, president of the company, says “We will get people from all over the world coming to see us now that we have a showcase like this.   When you come, bring your pup too and stay at one of our great mountain cabins.

Bob Moog invented the first synthesizer and moved to Asheville in 1978.  I have heard from many that he was a very nice, kind  man.  I did not know him personally.  It’s rather fitting he left his mark here, Asheville is a strong music scene. It’s something that is an honor to have had a man like that here and leave such a big contribution to music.

The company he left behind is moving from their small cramped neighborhood quarters to a fabulous big building downtown.  Heana Grams Moog, Bob Moog’s widow, said the new location close to downtown “will integrate Moog Music much more into the cultural life of Asheville.”  It will also help fulfill Moog’s dream of keeping the company healthy, prospering and giving back to the community.  You’ll be able to visit when you take your Asheville NC vacation.

Voting began on Monday May 17th and it’s coming down to a brew battle between Asheville NC and Portland OR.  It’s organized by beer authority Charlie Papazian.  Last year, Asheville and Portland were both awarded the crown. This is a vote including all breweries in the country.  How cool is it that Asheville is not only included but at the top of them all.

The city’s craft brew scene is nationally famous. During his recent vacation here, President Obama was presented with bottles of brew made in his honor.  So if you’ve been here, that would be in Asheville NC,  and had great beer, join us in proclaiming our excellence.  Cast those ballots at www.examiner.com/beer but remember to vote only once.

I thought this sounds so wonderful I wanted to spread the word.  Can you imagine floating down the French Broad River for 8 miles in the evening when all the birds and river critters start to come out?  Imagine the quietness of floating with the sound of paddles pushing the water as you float.  Oh look, there’s a Beaver, over there, look over there, there’s a Blue Heron.  Bliss, that’s what you’d have, just pure bliss.  If you get hungry, you can bring a little snack to eat as you float along and watch the sun go down.  Ahhhhh.

This is the creation of the Headwaters Outfitters who will also rent you a canoe to use.  You don’t need any experience so that’s a plus for all us couch potatoes.  Trips start at 4PM May 28, June 4, 11, 18 and 25 and Sept 3, 10, 24.   It costs only $50 a person so when you plan your Asheville NC mountain vacation, it’s not so bad when you stay at a rental cabin that will also supply you with dining coupons.  This could make a truly memorable experience.

Asheville is home to lots of craft breweries, but there is a huge home brewing group here as well.   The “Just Economic Brew Off”  happens June 19 at the Wedge Brewing Co, 125B Roberts St in the arts and crafts district in Asheville NC.  This is an opportunity for all the home brewers to come out of the closet and share – or boast – about their own special brew. We get to taste all of them.  No tickets are sold at this event to abide by the law, but memberships to the Just Economics organization is required and costs a mere $15.

This is a contest and there will be many awards.  The special awards are a couple of the breweries have offered their space to allow the home brewer to produce his beer.  It should be very interesting and lots of fun! and beer!!  LOL  Take an Asheville pet friendly vacation and come play with us.

When you come to the south for an Asheville  pet friendly vacation, you expect to eat pecan pie, green fried tomatoes, grits, and barbeque, right?  You betcha!  And we got the best of all those.  You will probably find those items on nearly every restaurant that has a southern cuisine.

The Moose Cafe at the Farmer’s Market is as southern as you can get.  If you want a taste of real southern food, fried chicken and all, that’s the place you want to try.  You eat family style, big table and big bowls of food.  And it’s all really good and freshly made.  When you’re done eating, take a walk through the farmer’s market to walk it off.

Don’t you love a great coffee place with a bakery so you can get a little nosh?  Or maybe a bakery with a little coffee.  Either way, you’ve found it in Asheville NC  when you go to the West End Bakery on Haywood Road. One of their specialty coffees I particularly like is a pumpkin latte.  Yep, you heard it right, pumpkin.  Oh yummy.

Tyler loves the fresh baked daily cinnamon buns.  I love Tim’s chocolate brownies.  Their little sandwiches, which are not so little, are also scrumptous made with their own baked bread.  Their paninis are soooo good!  Take a little Asheville pet friendly vacation and bring your pups and sit outside drinking your latte and scone.  You’ll be in a moment of heaven.  Oh, and they have cookies for the pups too!  Fresh baked of course!

Just came back from a really great breakfast at SunnyPoint Cafe in West Asheville.  It’s my favorite place to eat breakfast and when Tyler suggested it last nite my mouth started watering then.  Heard there was a vote on Good Morning America for the country’s best breakfast place and SunnyPoint was one of the 4 nominated.  You know I voted for my favorite breakfast place. I hope they win.

The best is the southern biscuits.  I’ve never tasted anything so good.  They are a little variation on the original, but oh my, I can’t live without them.  A little butter melted on each layer with a little local berry jam, wow!  What a great excursion off the farm for a little of our own R&R.  We spend so much time and energy making sure all our guests get their R&R in the best way possible, it’s a wonderful change to get our own. We love recommending this place to all our guests who come for an Asheville pet friendly vacation.
