It’s always sad to see this festival come to a close. It’s been a whirlwind romance for all the dancers running from place to place performing for several weeks. Fortunately though, they do get to experience our culture fully. They stay in dormitories set up in a local high school, have dinners with residents in their homes, see the sites, and just have a good time celebrating with each other. Waynesville does such a good job with this spectacular event. Catching any of these performances is no problem at all because they are booked at places all around your Asheville rental cabin.
My favorite is today’s event. It is the International Festival Day. It’s from 10 to 5 and it’s free. Main Street Waynesville is lined with craft booths, food booths, dance stages for the International dancers to perform on, and a big booth for the dancers to sell wares from their countries to help pay for their trip.
Blue Ridge Parkway rangers will lead a Summer Wildflower walk Friday July 30, 2010 at 10 AM on Frying Pan Mountain. You are able to take this walk at any other time as well on your own. Everyone is to meet at Milepost 409.6, at Forest Service Road 450, about 25 miles southwest of Asheville. A short little drive from your Asheville vacation cabin.
It’s about 2 miles round trip, moderate, one hour, heading to the summit at 5,450 feet elevation at an old fire tower. oh boy, the view is going to be incredible from the top of that tower. Remember, they had to see forever in one of those things. The walk is suitable for those that are not advanced walkers, but bring with you water, wear sturdy shoes, and prepare for a change in weather.
Not only is this a great weekend for Belle Chere in Asheville NC, but Waynesville, the next town over, starts their International Folkmoot Festival this weekend – July 23. The opening parade was on Friday and each day the dance troops go over over the Western North Carolina area until the candlelight closing ceremony on August 1st.
Each one of the dance performances are a short drive from your Asheville rental cabin. The performers give performances in the Asheville area as well. See the following link to get to the official website and view the schedule: www.folkmootusa.org When I was a potter I participated in the craft festival as a craft vendor and I loved it. It was my favorite show to do. The dance troops walk up and down the streets when not performing on the stage and break out into a dance whenever they felt like it. They are from all over the globe and it was a joy to meet them.
Since this is a beer capital of the country, what does one do when one is in the 18-20 year old bracket in Asheville. Well, there’s lots to do. The next number of entries will be devoted to alcohol-free activities in Asheville NC.
Plan your transportation to get here, then find your Asheville rental cabin, and then check out each one of these activities. Let’s start with the roller derby. The Blue Ridge Roller Girls return July 31st to face the Hell Mary’s of Texas at the Civic Center. With attendance hovering at the thousands for each bout, the roller girls have proven themselves to be an important and relevant part of the community as well as a great source of entertainment.
My favorite event at the Belle Chere Street Festival every year is, of course, the Purina Ultimate AirDogs event. The performance features dock-diving canines of all shapes, sizes, and breeds. They compete against each other in “Ultimate Air” the sport of diving into a pool. The shows are free but worth lots.
Leave your Asheville pet friendly cabin early to get a good standing or sitting spot because it’s not only my favorite event, lots of folks seem to love it as well. Seeing those pups eager to jump in and the happiness on their faces is just too much. I just love love love this. And on a hot day, I feel cool just being next to the water it seems.
Today is the second day of the Belle Chere Festival. It’s in full speed as Saturday is the biggest day. People are coming from everywhere all congregating on the same spot in Asheville NC. It’s really exciting. The music is in full tilt, the food and beverages flowing, the crafts gleaming in the sun. Everyone is really psyched.
If you are already at your Asheville rental cabin, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. When you get finished with the revelry of Asheville’s festival, hop in the car and find a great dance troop somewhere that is performing for Folkmoot. So much to do, so little time.
The 32nd annual Belle Chere street festival will take over downtown Asheville NC this weekend – June 23rd through the 25th. It is not just a craft and music festival, it is a food feast as well. In addition to the downtown restaurants that will stay open, the festival itself will host 2 food courts. One food court will contain local food only, the other out of towners.
If the food at festivals turns you off and you would prefer to bring your own, shop at the health food store down the street and pack a lunch each day you go from your Asheville vacation cabin.
Oh boy! This is the bestest of bestest of weekends, June 23 to the 25th. Write this on your calendar for next year if you can’t make it this year. This is the weekend of the Belle Chere Festival in Asheville North Carolina. This show had gotten so big they had to cut it back to make it a smaller affair. The city couldn’t even handle all the guests. Downtown will be covered with people. It’s a craft fair, music scene, food frenzy, and beer, lots of beer, lots of local breweries. It’s awesome really. There are like 4 or 5 stages set up in opposite ends of downtown that have musicians playing the entire day and night at each one. You pick and choose what you’d like to see any time. Don’t forget to catch a glimpse and buy some of the crafts you pass buy and food and drinks oh my!!
An Asheville rental cabin to go back to after all these festivities each night, a soak in the hot tub, a stargazing night on the deck, now that’s what I call a vacation!
The 68th annual “Guild” show is this weekend. If you miss it this time, don’t worry, you can make the next one in October. The Southern Highlands Craft Guild puts on one of the best shows in the country two times a year. One is in mid July typically, and the other is in October. We have many many great craftspeople here in Western North Carolina, and Asheville is known as a center in the state, and this show shows off many of the best. It is held at the Civic Center in Downtown Asheville.
When you stay at Cabin Cove Farm on your Asheville vacation, a great Asheville vacation cabin rental, you will only be 15 minutes from downtown Asheville. That gives you more time to spend at the show. It’s an awesome experience you wouldn’t want to miss if you are vacationing here at that time.
So you find you are sweltering at home. You think you would love to jump in some cold water right now. Let me invite you to come on a pet friendly vacation, staying in an Asheville pet friendly cabin, and visit any one of our wonderful waterfalls with Fido and jump in! He needs to cool off too.
DuPont State Forest has Hooker Falls. Just sit there and let that cold water drench you and you will cool off fast. You may never want to leave it. There’s nothing cooler than a mountain stream or swimming hole. There’s also Sliding Rock in Pisgah National Forest, or Rainbow Falls, and Gorges State Falls
